Job Description

Position: Human Resources Assistant.

Reports To: Human Resources Manager.

Category: Part Time NON-EXEMPT (30 hours per week on-site).

Location: In-Person; Fairfax, Virginia.

Position Summary:

The Human Resource Assistant (HRA) will perform administrative tasks to support efficient operations of the organization's human resource department. Responsibilities include recruitment, hiring, onboarding, benefit administration, termination, and assisting with employee relations and disciplinary matters. This position also assists the HR Manager with strategic initiatives in retention management, organizational performance management, and professional development.

We meet their emergency needs through our wrap around services and community partnerships and help individuals and families experience safe and stable housing after years of uncertainty and instability. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date, and confidential human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees related to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.
  • Coordinates safety, anti-harassment, program training, and professional certifications. 
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with hiring managers to understand the skills and competencies required for each opening.
  • Acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Conducts or assists with new hire orientation and Internship programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and team celebrations.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Provides clerical support to the HR department and performs other duties as assigned.


Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of human resource operations experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn human resource information systems (HRIS) and similar computer applications.
  • Must pass criminal and Child Protective Services background checks.


Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to occasionally drive 16 passenger transit vans.
  • Must be able to attend occasional meetings at other FACETS office locations within Fairfax County, including 3 annual organization-wide fundraising events each year.


Pay Range:

$23-$25 per hour commensurate with qualification/experience.
