Job Description

Description Responsible for the supervision of medical and mental care of Danville City Jail Inmates Supervise medical staff Report to the ranking officer and/or jail administrator for an update of any information relevant to conducting the shift. Make frequent checks throughout the area of control. Move continuously through assigned areas. Be prepared to provide written documentation of any and all irregularities or infractions. See that all rules and regulations of the jail are enforced. See that all physical plant equipment in the jail is operating properly. Do not leave the jail building without informing a staff member of your destination. Maintain coordination with all staff. Responsible for the dispensing on all medication. Responsible for making all medical appointments for inmates. Orders all medication and medical supplies needed to operate the jail efficiently. Treats inmates with minor injuries following jail doctor's protocol. Draws blood for medical testing as specified by referring doctors. Draws blood for court order DNA testing and maintain records. Obtains medical information on inmates who were treated for injury or illness prior to incarceration. Assist the jail physician on his weekly sick call. Upon request of inmates, will see inmates for minor medical conditions. Completes the medical co-payment sheets to be submitted to the accounts secretary for deduction from inmate account. Completes inmate medical transfer on all inmates transferred. Maintains inmate medical records as specified by the Virginia Department of Corrections. Knowledge of approved principles, practices and procedures of Sheriff's Office; knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Sheriff's Office; ability to analyze Sheriff's Office problems and recommend effective and reasonable courses of action; have a knowledge of entry level training and in-service training requirements. At least an Associate's Degree or any combination of education and experience equivalent to a two-year college degree. Possession of a valid, appropriate driver's license. RN LPN License required.
