Job Title: Remote Medical Coder

Specialty: Medical Coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and ADA Coding Systems)

Place of Work (City/State): Remote - Supporting Zuni Comprehensive Community Health Center Zuni, New Mexico 87327

** This is a fully remote position. No onsite presence is required. All work will be performed virtually via a secure government VPN.**

Duration: 12 months contract with the possibility of a 4-years extension

Shift Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM 4:30 PM Mountain Time

License / Certifications:

• Required:
  • Certification through AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) or
  • AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders)

Minimum Qualification / Experience:

• Active certification in medical coding (AHIMA or AAPC)
• Demonstrated proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and ADA codes
• Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance coding rules
• Proven ability to abstract clinical data from EHRs
• Familiarity with RPMS/EHR systems (Vista Imaging)
• Prior remote coding and VPN access experience preferred
• Capable of coding 80 120 visits per day

Responsibilities:

Scope of Work:

• Remotely code medical records for outpatient and specialty clinical visits
• Enter accurate ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and PCS codes into RPMS system via VPN
• Validate service dates, visit types, provider codes, and make necessary edits
• Ensure coding supports billing, reporting, and compliance requirements

Productivity Standards:

• Minimum : 80 coded visits/day per coder
• Target : Up to 120 coded visits/day per coder
• Rejected or returned records do not count toward productivity

Data Integrity & Compliance:

• Ensure accuracy and timeliness in data entry for statistical, billing, and reporting purposes
• Records must be coded and closed within four (4) calendar days of the visit
• Comply with CMS guidelines, IHS regulations, and all HIPAA policies
• Report coding discrepancies and suggest documentation clarifications as needed

Communication & Coordination:

• Maintain regular contact with the HIM Supervisor
• Report coder absences and planned leave in advance
• Update contact information for each assigned coder

Technology & Equipment Requirements:

Contractors are responsible for providing their own equipment.

Government does not provide:

• Laptops, desktops, monitors, or peripheral hardware
• Internet service or connection infrastructure

Government does provide:

• VPN access credentials
• Secure access to RPMS/EHR systems
• Policy and procedure documentation
• Coordination support via Contracting Officer's Representative (COR)
