Job Description

🚀 Alt-Bionics, Inc. 🦾 is growing and is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead engineering efforts in our robotics division, focused on advanced bionic hands (dexterous manipulators) for humanoid robotic and industrial applications.

In just a few years after Alt-Bionics was founded (2020), we went from a blank slate to a fully functional bionic hand for those living with limb loss. From the foundations of this first hand, and in just 18 months, we built an improved robotics version with major improvements in speed, strength, and functionality, that is being used by humanoid robots today. Now, we are building the next leap forward. Hands unlike the world has seen before, and we are looking for an electrical engineer who wants to help us build this next bleeding edge of hands. We are searching for someone who thrives on rapid progress, embraces technical challenges, and wants their work to make a difference. What you build here will power both cutting-edge robotics and real-world prosthetics that will have impact around the world.

In the role you’ll lead cross-functional engineering efforts and operate with autonomy across electrical, mechanical, and software teams. This role is fast-paced, hands-on, and critical to future product success. If you know how to architect robust embedded systems, debug at every level, and ship hardware that actually works in the field, we want to talk.

🚫 Note: Only those with startup experience or an understanding of what that may entail should apply.

🤝 Work alongside a passionate team of driven, mission-focused builders

💼 WFH Flexibility + PTO

💰 Salary: $130,000–$160,000 + Equity (0.25% - 1.00%)

Feel free to message me or our COO, Alex Poague directly, or reach out through our website at altbionics.com.

  • Create schematics and wiring diagrams with a focus on performance, safety, and manufacturability.
  • Select, validate, and integrate components for signal integrity, power efficiency, and reliability.
  • Collaborate tightly with mechanical and software teams to deliver integrated, production-ready designs.
  • Lead technical reviews and cross-functional coordination to keep projects aligned and on track.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Deep experience in PCB design, firmware development, and motor control systems.
  • Proven track record with PCB fabrication, board bring-up, and hands-on debugging.
  • Strong background in STM32 and Infineon PSOC microcontrollers.
  • Fluent in C/C++ for embedded systems.
  • Hands-on experience with real-world electromechanical systems.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of industry experience or MS with 6+ years.
  • History of delivering reliable, field-tested products.
  • Comfortable leading technical efforts and communicating across disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in compact, multi-layer, high-current PCB design.
  • Advanced motor control: tuning, stability, efficiency.
  • Firmware experience across diverse microcontroller families.
  • Proficient with Altium Designer.
  • Ability to write Python scripts for testing and automation.
  • Experience building systems that bridge hardware, firmware, and mechanics.
  • Skilled in low-level debugging and fast iteration.
  • Familiarity with I2C, SPI, UART, RS485, and CAN.
  • Knowledge of DFM, in-house manufacturing, and FCC compliance.
  • Experience coordinating with both US and overseas vendors.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics and battery systems.
  • Self-directed, with experience leading or mentoring engineers.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
