Job Overview

The Office of Accounting and Finance, College of Medicine is recruiting a Senior Grant Administrator.

 

The candidate will work independently on complex and strategic assignments in the day-to-day administration of specialized activities related to grant administration and reports to management, provide recommendations and advice to management or other groups on process related topics and conduct or carry out work procedures and activities in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as university financial and administrative policies. Major duties will include administrative, fiscal, grant, and general duties.

Essential Functions

  • Assist faculty, staff, and/or students with researching, locating, developing, writing, and administering federal, state, and private grants, contracts, and external funding sources.
  • Oversee proposal preparation and submission process. Post-award duties include award set up and management for financial and regulatory compliance, meeting regularly with Principal Investigators (PIs) for expense reporting and projects, and processing reports and transactions, including subcontract activity for the full lifecycle of sponsored program administration.
  • Breadth of duties may span several sub-specialties and may be either unit-specific, typically handling proposal submission and award administration, or more broadly defined encompassing the ability to help grow the research enterprise. Extend mastery of job knowledge to the principles, theories and practices of related specialties and expand knowledge of best practices within the field of grant administration.
  • Implement policies that reflect continuous oversight and review of sponsored project funds to ensure that all financial transactions are compliant with university policies and funding agency guidelines.
  • Work directly and collaboratively with various offices of the university to fulfill all expenditure/compliance requirements and resolve complex issues that arise through the duration of a sponsored award.
  • Assist with dissemination of expertise to train staff in the department unit to adhere to high standards of compliance with sponsored project requirements and dissemination of knowledge of UC-based financial systems and applications to achieve financial and Human Resource objectives.
  • Oversee leadership of teams and projects that involve extensive cooperation and coordination between multiple departments across the University or with external customers.
  • Prepare written and/or verbal presentations or proposals on complex issues, university process, sponsor guideline interpretation and other grantsmanship processes and deliver to a broad variety of audiences.
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to important and complex strategic and operational issues which may involve unusual circumstances.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant education, experience and/or other specialized training can fulfill minimum education and experience requirements.

Required Experience

  • Three (3) years of grant and finance-related experience.
  • Knowledge of Uniform Guidance.
