We are seeking a highly technical and self-motivated Technical Author to support the development of service and operational manuals for Off-Highway Vehicles. This individual will work directly with engineering teams to gather, review, and interpret complex technical data and transform it into user-friendly service information such as Repair Manuals and Operation Guides. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, high technical aptitude, and the ability to evaluate and extract relevant service-related information from engineering documents.

Pay Range: $35-$45/hour ; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Type: 7+months contract

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work independently with engineering teams to collect and interpret engineering documents and specifications.
  • Evaluate technical documents such as CAD drawings, wiring diagrams, and harness prints to extract relevant service information.
  • Provide technical insights and support to other authors to ensure the accuracy and completeness of manuals.
  • Create or contribute to the development of service manuals, repair guides, and operation manuals for Off-Highway Vehicles.
  • Ensure documentation adheres to quality and style standards.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers and internal stakeholders to clarify and validate technical content.
  • Organize and prioritize documentation tasks based on project timelines and resource availability.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong technical aptitude in mechanical or electrical systems—preferably within locomotive, mining, off-highway, or automotive industries.
  • Proven experience in technical authoring with an emphasis on service and operational documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret:
  • CAD drawings
  • Wiring diagrams
  • Harness prints
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Adobe FrameMaker or similar authoring tools.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for technical documentation.
  • Experience working with mining vehicles or other heavy-duty industrial equipment.
  • Exposure to or experience supporting manual development processes for complex systems or machinery.

Work Environment:

  • May involve working on-site or remotely, depending on project needs.
  • Regular interaction with engineering teams via meetings, calls, and document reviews.
  • Occasional travel may be required based on project requirements (if applicable).
