Job Description
**Job Description**
**_Strengthening and empowering all of the communities we serve._**
**Video Producer**
Hybrid role, based in Birmingham, AL
**Join Our Team as a Video Producer - Be a Creator Who Tells Alabama's Story**
We're seeking a creative, community-focused video producer who's equally at ease behind the camera and in front-driven to tell the stories that matter to our audiences.
The base salary range is $47,000 to $57,000 per year.
**What Makes This Role Unique**
We're blending traditional reporting with a creator's mindset-innovative, audience-driven storytelling that meets people where they are. You'll cover Alabama's news, culture and communities in ways that resonate with digital audiences.
Curious, agile, and audience-first, you'll help shape how our stories are told and shared. While this role embraces the creativity of digital creators, it's grounded in journalism's core values: accuracy, ethics, and public service. You'll have room to experiment with formats and platforms, but your storytelling will always be rooted in truth and integrity.
Your work will appear across our digital platforms, from short-form social videos to immersive visual features. You're comfortable capturing compelling footage with a smartphone or professional video gear - and you know how to make the most of whatever tools are in your hands. You'll help build trust and engagement by showing up in the places and conversations that matter to Alabamians.
**What You'll Do**
+ Report, film, edit and publish video stories covering breaking news, politics, sports, life and culture.
+ Create platform-native content for social media that informs, inspires and sparks conversation.
+ Travel across the state to capture diverse stories and landscapes.
+ Collaborate with reporters, editors and audience teams to shape coverage.
+ Engage with communities online and in person to surface untold stories.
+ Experiment with formats and storytelling styles to grow reach and impact.
+ Work quickly and efficiently to meet deadlines - news moves fast and timely publishing is key.
**What You Bring**
+ At least five years of experience in video production, ideally in a newsroom or digital media setting
+ Comfortable shooting on both phones and pro gear and able to match the tools to the story
+ Strong video editing skills
+ A creator's eye for visuals, pacing, story structure and audience engagement
+ Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and stay informed on Alabama news and culture
+ Working knowledge of SEO, social media analytics and digital best practices
+ Passion for storytelling that reflects Alabama's vibrant mix of traditions, voices and perspectives
+ Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with empathy and professionalism
+ Drone certification or willingness to obtain one is a plus
This job requires reliable transportation to meet with sources or cover events.
To be considered, please submit:
+ A cover letter that shares what excites you about this role
+ Your resume
+ A portfolio showcasing your best video and social media work
We know great candidates don't always check every box. If you're excited about the role and bring initiative, curiosity and a strong understanding of our mission, we encourage you to apply.
